Karen Blackburn - Minister of Christian Education and Daycare Director

Bob and Karen Blackburn joined Indian Lake Community Church in 1980, shortly after they were married. They enjoyed raising their five children (now grown) in the Indian Lake area and attending this church.  They have eleven very active grandchildren (22, 18, 17, 8, 6, 4, 4, 4, 2, 7 months and 6 months). On many a weekend the grandchildren are hanging with Grandpa Bob and MiMi. Bob and Karen love having their family around and usually fill their dining room table every other Sunday after church for a home cooked meal.

Children have always had a special place in Karen’s heart. In 1990 with Karen as the director, the church opened the ILCC Daycare. To date, over 1,400 children have attended the daycare. It is a full-time child care facility, before and after school, and preschool. There is nothing better than watching children learn to accomplish a new goal, and to hear the joy of playing with other boys and girls.

Bob and Karen have been very involved in all areas of the church. In 1995, Karen became Associate Pastor of the church, and she continues to be part of the ministry team. She leads the children’s message each week during the worship service, which always seems to be an adventure! 

In the 30 plus years as members, Bob and Karen have watched the church experience many ups and downs, but no matter what is happening, the church is like a family. “One of the reasons I love pastoral ministry is being able to be there for people who are having difficulties in their lives. Whether it is grief, loss of job, family problems, financial difficulties, or health issues, I like to be able to be able to give support, hope for the future and share the love of God. And of course, it is a blessing to be a part of all their joys and successes”.
